Movie Night

Friday, August 7th at 7pm is our family movie night sponsored by Graceland Kids. We'll meet at the Scott's house, 28316 Arroyo Court, Castaic CA, 91384. Bring your swim stuff cause we'll swim for a while before the movie starts.

This is going to be a great time for the whole family. Lots of fun and lots of fellowship! Bring your favorite movie snacks and a lawn chair too, and of course, invite a friend!!!!!!!

The Amazing Race 2009

Camp Cedar Crest was bursting at the seams at this year's 3rd-6th grade summer camp. There were nearly 400 campers and almost 100 group leaders and staff altogether! The theme "The Amazing Race" was based on 1 Corinthians 9:24. Ask any camper and they should be able to quote the verse complete with hand motions.

Over the 5 days and 4 nights, we took part in crazy team competitions, dynamic worship and inspiring messages delivered by Pastor Jason Graves. Our Graceland Kids were challenged to live for God and join the Amazing Race. Take a look at the slideshow! We posted some of the highlights of the trip.

Join us this Saturday, July 11th from noon-4pm at Pastor Rachel's house for Camp Rewind. This will be a great time to enjoy some pool time but also share our favorite stories from camp and give some testimonies about what God did over the 5 days. Bible Memory Challenge 2009

It's on, the 10 week summer time challenge to memorize the 66 books of the Bible or 10 Bible verses! For the books of the Bible, you have to be able to recite all 66 books in order without prompting. Sounds simple enough right?!

If you want more of a challenge, memorize one verse each week, come to church and tell us, keep remembering each verse each week and by the end of 10 weeks, you'll have learned 10 memory verses!

The prize is lunch together with Pastor Rachel and another prize that is yet to be revealed. Shhh! It's a secret prize!

Get memorizing! The challenge only lasts from June 28th-August 30th!

Easter Egg Hunt

We partnered with L.A. County Parks and Recreation, as well as Royal Oaks Church to host the annual Easter Egg Hunt at Dr. Richard Rioux Park in Stevenson Ranch. Thanks to the generous donations of our congregation both in supplying eggs for the hunt and volunteers who helped throughout the day, we had a great time! We loved meeting people in the community and sharing a blustery Spring day together. If you missed out on the event this year, there's always next year! So it's time to make some changes! Come check out what is new at Graceland Kids' Church. We look a little different. We're doing church a little different. We are thinking differently about our ministry to the kids of Living Grace. You can expect many of the same things we already offer but just done a little differently. Got you curious? Winter Camp 2009 for 3rd -6th Graders

Winter Camp 2009 was crazy and fun-filled from the very start. The kids (and adults) arrived on January 9^th and were welcomed by the elements; wind, ice, slippery surfaces, and freezing temperatures.

Within the first few hours the events at Camp Cedar Crest had everyone wondering if this was such a smart idea! Not really but they had a pretty rough start. First, Josh fell into an icy stream and Pastor Tim didn’t think twice before reaching to save him. As Suzanne joined the effort to save Josh she teetered on the edge and almost fell in as well. Unfortunately, Pastor Tim dislocated his arm during the attempted rescue. But good news... Caleb saved the day by catching Suzanne just in time! Yes, Josh did eventually escape from the icy stream.

With the weekend off and running, everyone was eager to see what else was in store for them. The camp focus this year was to challenge kids to be examples in their love, deeds, speech and purity. Camp speaker, Tyler Johnson is the youth pastor from Media City Church in Burbank. He really drove home the message that it doesn’t matter how young you are; it’s never too soon to start living for Jesus and to be examples to a world that desperately needs Him. It was a blessing to see the kids soaking up God’s word.

As you can imagine, everyone was exhausted on January 11th when they returned from this event-filled weekend. But hey, 97 campers, 45 group leaders (and staff), wind, ice, and everything that comes with it, is a recipe for FUN and not very much rest. Thank you to everyone who participated this last weekend in worship, fellowship, growth, and play.

Christmas Program

Don't miss our Christmas Eve Service at 5pm on December 24th. Our very own Graceland Kids will be performing two songs they have been working on for several weeks. It is sure to be a wonderful evening. Invite your family and friends and don't forget your camera! The service is also an opportunity to cherish the message of Christmas together as a church. We hope to see you there!

Cards for Service Members

This past Sunday, December 7th, we joined Graceland kids together to make cards for men and women who serve in our armed forces. It was great to see kids put their own style and personality on the cards.

This was an simple way to give at Christmas time and to bless those who bless our lives and continue to fight for our country's freedom. Our kids worked so hard to make the best card they could. Take a look at the slideshow to find pictures of this day!

A special thanks to Shayna Shnereger who gave us the idea and made sure we had what we needed to add the perfect touches to the cards.

Fundraiser at Baja Fresh

Join us at the Baja Fresh in Valencia, on December 7th! We'll be raising money for our kids who are going to camp. Please come out any time from 11am-10pm. Eat a great meal and give to a good cause: Our Graceland Kids! 15% of all orders placed with our event flyer will go directly to us! Don't forget to pick up a flyer at church, or stop by the office anytime this week to get more. Invite friends, family, co-workers, neighbors, anyone! Thank you in advance for your support! Winter camp is coming up! Mark your calendar for January 9-11th. If you are in grades 3-6 this year, then winter camp is for you. We will be going to Camp Cedar Crest up in the San Bernardino mountains. We'll have more information for you soon!

A big thanks to all the kids who helped be a part of our First ever CMS (Children's Ministry Sunday). I had a number of adults comment on how impressed they were with all the polite ushers and greeters. People were rocking out with our child worship singers too, that was awesome!

Let's not forget about the Commissioning part of the service! All Graceland kids were prayed for and commissioned to go out and be a light in their schools! I just can't say enough how great and inspiring our young people are. This is the greatest group of kids and I am so blessed to Pastor them! PTL!

Come check out our annual Harvest Fest featuring FREE fun and games for the whole family! Invite a friend cause it's gonna be an awesome night. Our address is Oak Hills School, 730 Old Rock Road, Valencia, CA.

This event is an alternative to the tradition Halloween fare that can often be offensive and dark. We see this night as a celebration of God's goodness and we hope that all who come feel the difference and want to come back for more, more of God that is!

Kids and parents, young and old, small and great, all are welcome so step right up, join in the fun Under The Big Top!

Children's Ministry Sunday, September 7th @ 10am

It's our 1st ever, Children's Ministry Sunday! Don't miss our own Graceland Kids in action, Sunday, September 7th, as greeters, ushers and worship singers!

We want to expose our kids to every aspect of church life. What better way than to bring them in the adult service. The kids rarely venture into our adult services because we provide a kid based, kid centered ministry for them all year long. This church time will serve as a wonderful teaching and growth opportunity for them. We look forward to this event!

This special Sunday is timed just as school is starting. We plan to Commission our kids and send them out to serve God in their schools. We want to pray over them and encourage them to live for God on their campus. Please join us! Eight Months In...

It has now been over eight months since I became children's pastor here at Living Grace Christian Fellowship. It does not seem possible that it has been that long!

One thing I've wanted to do since I started, was develop a better way to communicate and share ideas and thoughts with our parents and kids. The best way I know how, thanks to technology, is by a web-based means. Our church website was the first choice but after looking into it, we determined that it would not service our needs very well. I also thought about creating a My Space page but several parents I've spoken with were not comfortable with the idea. A blog seemed the natural next and best choice. A blog is like a digital journal. It works similar to a website in several of it's features. It is easy to use and easy to update (for the tech challenged like me). You can interact with it, too, by posting your own responses and input. Kids too, can ask questions, post their thoughts, and even offer advise!

This is my first time attempting to do my own blog but I look forward to doing it! I hope you all visit this blog often to check in with Children's Ministry. I will write about current events, upcoming events at our church, parenting tips, resources I recommend, and whatever else comes to mind. I look forward to posting pictures of our Graceland Kids too!

For now, this is the first official post!
